Second Time Roasted:

"Second Time Roasted"
Weenie Roast 2003
-Angela Wolfard Pham

The bands playing at Weenie Roast ?03 weren?t our favourite, but that didn?t stop us from missing a great adventure opportunity! This
year it wasn?t as difficult to get a hold of tickets as last year.  Rosemary snagged us 2 tickets at the internet presale.  We got considerably
good seats.  I can?t believe we were one of those lawn losers just last year.  Aside from the bands, not much was different from last
year. It was me, Rosemary and Emmie. I was sick, again.  Seriously, why am I always sick? There are alota insignificant events that lead
to the important story, so I?ll just fast forward. We were casually toddling through a large backstage opening when a guard said we
weren?t allowed to be there. Like always we acted disoriented. ?Daddy, where art thou???. ?Our car is this way, right?? He saw that we
were desperate enough, so he let us pass.  It was hard to play it cool when we were surrounded by rockstars. The first friends we made
were Gill and John.  They were the White Stripe?s sound check.  Gill gave us used drumsticks with all these bite marks!  John, our first
New Zealand buddy, got us lunch, which would cost a fortune inside the concert.  In the backstage eating area we met Dr. Drew from
Loveline.  Unfortunately for Rosemary, we never got to meet Adam Corolla; he seems like a swell guy.  We were also told that our
fellow Sheep Mafia member John from System of a Down was going to show up, but he never did. We got some advice on how to play
it cool backstage from the Foo Fighters sound check guy, sorry for the no name, he never gave us one. We caught Travis, current
drummer of Transplants/former drummer of Blink 182, before he left. He was pleasant, fame hadn?t assed him up. Speaking of asses,
we spotted the former sound check/guard Jimmy Eat World who kicked us out. Oh he knew it was us all right, but he couldn?t do a
thing. Heh. Surprisingly, Pink was walking around.  We asked to take a photo with her, and she responded with ?Only if you can tell me
the lyrics to Get the Party Started?, which I consider to be a smart idea to separate all the phonies from the hardcore fans.  We couldn?t
think of the lyrics even though we heard her singing it on stage only a few minutes before, but she let us take one anyway.  Because we
couldn?t leave backstage (once you leave, you can?t come back), I missed thrice, the only band I really wanted to see.  Hakoona
Metota, they?ll be at warped. We decided to leave our spot and look around.  We said hello to Stryker, but then this guard noticed that
we didn?t have wristbands. I?m not clear as to what happened because I was sorta dazed, but basically we ended up paying the guards
$80 to stay.  After we had paid them, we realized what we did was stupid and corrupt. I felt unclean. But that all went away when I got
free In-n-Out. Emmie wanted to watch Hot Hot Heat, so she left? and never came back. During this time, Rosemary and I met a lot of
beautiful people: Jeph and Bert from the Used, Pink, Dr. Drew, Travis Barker, Stryker, Kelly Osbourne, guys from Sum 41, and Dave
Grohl. There were some oddballs such as the old man scootering around or the desperate dude who dodged about 30 security guards and
ran like hell toward the stage (he never made it).  For about 3 hours or so, we tried to mingle with the crowd, but they were just too
different.  We enjoyed their company.   After what seemed like forever, some guard finally noticed we didn?t have wrist bands so we
passively left. We met Emmie and watched AFI and Sum 41 and snuck into a private party to steal some more food - which we totally
deserve. We really should be called the raccoon mafia.  We came back to watch Staind and The White Stripes.  Emmie ditched us to
move further down toward the pit. I really didn?t care where we were sitting - I had no interest in the bands. But we kept sliding row by
row, and by the time Godsmack played, we were in the pit. The Deftones and the Foo Fighters were great live; I just wish I knew some
of their songs.  Before Godsmack was going to play, half of the people left, which made me either want to feel bad or laugh. When they
were done I just wanted to go home and sleep. Since it was going to be awhile since Rosemary?s bro picked us up, we lingered
backstage.  Emmie, now all bashed up, stole a pillow, and Rosemary - a duck.   Near the entrance, we met a man named Sal, yes as in
the Spanish tu-command ?leave? (knowledge is power!).  He works for Capitol records, what a job! He says he gets to meet famous
people all the time and can hook us up with backstage passes to any concert.  What a great advantage for Sheep Mafia.  We also handed
out a lot of Sheep Mafia card, so hopefully, someone will visit our site. Overall we had an awesome time, our mission was accomplished
and we got a whole bunch of important contacts.

Angela and RoseMary are happy to accomplish our
mission: to get backstage

RoseMary, Pink, and Emmie. We felt so stupid, she told us we could only
get a picture with her if we sang the lyrics to "Get the Party Started" we all
had no idea, but she let us take a picture with her anyways

A photo with the singer from the Used, Bert.

A bad picture of a kid who tried to sneak backstage and tried to escape the guards.
He was really good at trying to escape, he had like literally 10 guards on him chasing
him around and he dodged them all. What a hooligan. We were all scared that would
happen to us.

This is probably the best thing that happened at the whole event. We got to meet the
legendary musician Dave Grohl, drummer from Nirvarna, singer and guitarist of Foo
Fighters, and drummer from Queens of the Stone Age.

Emmie and Rosemary exhuasted from walking everywhere and meeting famous people
sit down on an awesome couch which many bands were interviewed on earlier. (Photo

HOME

To walk through those bushes was one option to get backstage. We seriosuly
were considering giving it a try. Luckily, we found another way.

Once again we meet the Sobe human lizard.

A clearer image at how lizardy he was

The bass guitarist of the Used, Jeph Howard, and us

Emmie, Dr. Drew from Loveline, and RoseMary. Unfortunately Adam Corolla didnt
make it. Dr. Drew amazingly recognized RoseMary as a caller before.

RoseMary, Travis Barker from the Transplants (and Blink 182), Angela, and Emmie.

A photo with John who helps out with the White Stripes, he was very awesome even though he knew
we snuck back and our wristbands were fake he let us eat at the VIP restuarant backstage! His friend
who also works for the White Stripes gave us Meg White's drumsticks.

RoseMary and Angela fighting with Meg White's drumsticks at the VIP Restuarant (the food was free too!)

Once again for the forth time RoseMary meets Stryker. He was absolutely awesome he tried
to help Emmie out to get back in again, although it didnt work.

A picture with Kelly Osbourne, Angela was afraid of her.

RoseMary with the drummer from Sum 41.

RoseMary and Angela on the very same stage a million other bands have played on.

All the stage crew taking apart the stage.

Some of the artists caravans backstage.

This is the VIP area where they just hang out and play foosball or
air hockey. We were here most of the concert.

Crazy Emmie, after she was having fun moshing in the pit she didnt realize how beat up
she got!
