Vans Warped Tour 2003

AWK ward
By Angela Wolf

FYI: Frank is the guitarist of Andrew WK

This was the day we?ve been looking forward to since? forever!  This was the first day of Sheep
Mafia?s AWK ward adventure.  This was Warped Tour 2003- in Pomona.  I got to Rosemary?s
house at around 9, but we ended up leaving at around 1 pm.  Don?t ask me why it took so long.
Rosemary told Frank we would be there at around 11 am, so we felt guilty about getting there so late.
The excuse we used: Angela had a bloody nose that lasted 2 hours (no, its not impossible, it has
happened) When we arrived, we were shocked at how ugly the venue was.  It looked like an
abandoned Disneyland.  What made it worse was that Frank only got 2 press passes when we
needed 3.  Maryanne, Rosemary?s sister, had to wait outside while Rosemary and I searched for the
AWK band.  After hours of searching in the heat, we found Jimmy, AWK guitarist, lacking his
signature Hawaiian shirt! Lucky for us, we had, in our bag full of gifts for AWK prezzies, a Hawaiian
Shirt just for him, which he wore onstage on day 2.  Jimmy told us to look for the band near the
Brian stage. On the way there we recognized Wee Man.  Unfortunatly, Rosemary forgot to put the
battery in the digi camera.  Very awkwardly, she got out the camcorder and used that instead.  We
found Frank, actually, Frank found us.  It took us awhile to recognize him when he looked like
Hercules with his lengthy hair.  Long story short, he saved the day and got Maryanne a backstage
pass, which we never needed because we all left around 5 to go eat at Todai and to visit the furry
friends at the pet shop. Just before leaving we hung out with the band in their tour bus.  For a
survey, we made them try vegemite, a famous Australian spread, to see if they liked it. No one did.  I
never got to watch any of the bands, but I told myself I had 2 more chances.  First, we went to
rosemary?s house so that frank could have a shower.  Hahaha? too many awkward moments to
mention.  After dinner, Rosemary and I were dropped off at home while Frank and Maryanne went
back to the concert.  The rest of the night we dwelled on all the awkward moments, lit fireworks, and
played ?connection loading? with shoddy.  The next day, we swore, would be better.

We left earlier because Ventura was 2 hours away.  This time we had 4 guest passes so Maryanne?s
friend came.  Because Rosemary wanted to get the AWK interview done, we had to sneak in the
camcorder which we did very slickly.  We didn?t have a good as a time as we thought backstage.
Basically all we did was: watch Frank and Andrew lift weights (we tried to avert our eyes, they were
going to explode!), eat cashews, watch Ken and mountain man (Big Daddy) set up equipment, avoid
DT, and look for free food.  Since they were playing at 7:30, we had to do this for a long time.
Occasionally, we hung out with the norms.  The only reason why we really left backstage was for free
sample drinks.  We were tired of the free Yoohoos and Monster crap drinks backstage.  The best part
of that day was when we got to watch AWK live onstage. They were great live, I only wish they could
play more than 6 songs.  Later that night, after the show was long over, we went to Vons to buy
some alcohol and lit fireworks and ate free hamburgers. Rosemary spilt ketchup on me, and i found
this huge rock in the patty that almost cracked my tooth.  Frank thought the fireworks were lame.
Rosemary and I just kept our mouths shut. Later we hung out on the tour bus with Andrew and
watched family guy. (ha..ha) We never got to do the interview that day because the battery was
running out.  We were afraid it was our last chance because we had no backstage passes for Long
beach.

Long Beach was only half an hour away.  We had no passes that day, but that didn?t stop us.  We
used our old pass from Pomona and it actually worked! Sadly, we got there too late to see AWK, but
we saw Pennywise, Rancid and Thrice. Although we never got to see Frank or say goodbye ( he was
sleeping at the hotel) , we had a really fun time because we hung out with Ken, the guitar tech.  We
also saw Andrew WK doing an interview.  For the most of the day, we snuck backstage, we are true
sheep mafians, we hung out near the buses where we saw and recorded SHAVO, who we learned
later to be a great friend of AWK. We met up with a good Sheep Mafian buddy Sal, who ditched us
after an hour.  While walking to the buses Ken gave us a scare.  We were glad to see him because we
haven?t recognized any AWK buddies all day! We got a henna tattoo on our arm of RAWK n RO?
sheep.  After that, all the normbees left, so we partied back at the tour buses! Since the band was
leaving for San Francisco, it would be the last time we would see them for awhile.  We?re really
looking forward to be in the next AWK video in August! ha?.ha.. you?ll see us? we?re way in the
back.

Day 1- 7/8 Pomona "A.W.K. Ward"

Angela, Frank, and RoseMary infront of RoseMarys house

A weird picture of us infront of the house, it was Angelas idea to pose like this

Another picture of us infront of the house,
the picture was really dark thats why the quality of this one
isnt as good as it should be

MaryAnne, Frank, and Angela infront of the house.
I dont know why we took so many, atleast we dont regret not taking any

Well this is the picture we awkwardly took with the camera thats why it isnt very clear. Wee Man is

Left: Heres the guy from Sum 41
Right: Mr. Tin Man, a decorative thing hanging from I think Sum 41s tour bus

RoseMary and Big Daddy who works on Andrews crew, I think the guitar tech. He was always really
nice like the rest of the Andrew WK family
(except D.T.)

This is the front of Andrew WKs tour bus, those dots are millions of bugs.
You can tell we take pictures of the important stuff!

These are Andrews guitars all ready to be played onstage

Here's Ken the other guitar tech setting up some guitars

Here's Big Daddy and Ken setting up some stuff, we took so many pictures of the crew setting up
because we had guest passes and we had to stay backstage because we needed an escort to always be
with us. So we were just sitting there for hours watching them setup. We must have been so
annoying and in the way.

Once again a picture of the crew setting up

This is Rich the drum tech guy, he was really nice... unlike the person he worked for (not mentioning names)

This is Andrew WKs tour bus, we wanted to live in the trailor

Look how excited Angela looks! haha Remember we were there sitting down for hours, but we still
had loads of fun we were there ALL day

A secret picture of the manager and the tour manager of the band chatting

We finally decided to leave and bother someone to escort us back, so this is a picture of a random
band live. We dont know which one.
