Idle for while- then things go wild! By Angela Fam July 23, 2003
?Of course the tickets won?t sell out..? It was the day of the Idlewild concert in West Hollywood and we still hadn?t gotten tickets. I kicked myself during the show for not buying them in advance, but patted myself on the back after the adventure. When we arrived there at 9 pm, the tickets were sold out. Second option -sneak in from back. No good, didn?t work- we actually embarrassed ourselves. Third option - scalpers. But while we were attempting to do the second option, our third option sold his tickets to other people. We were clueless as what to do. Idlewild being Shaudee?s favorite band, she was slightly disappointed. During the opening bands, Rosemary wanted to go look for Ozzy?s house. Didn?t find it. That?s twice. When we got back, Idlewild had already started playing. I know this sounds sad, but we put our ears up to the door in the back alley. That drunk homeless monster-type man didn?t keep us from hearing them. They played songs from all 3 albums. Sadly, they didn?t play Shaudee?s favorite song - Bronze Medal. During the encore, one of the guards who knew we?ve been waiting since 7 (hehe) and drove all the way from San Diego (heh heh? *WINK WINK knudge WINK* hehe ok shutup), let us go through the back door. But just as we entered this big black scary man kicked us out. We felt embarrassed for ourselves and that guard that let us in. When the show finally ended, these other security guards who knew we?ve been waiting the whole time told the guys to come out and greet us fans (heh heh). First guy we met was Allan. Wow- he was so nice! And his accent was cool as! Since this was so unexpected, we didn?t know what to say. He told us that he?d bring out the other guys for us though. This really nice security guard that looked like Ken ( AWK guitar tech) gave Shaudee drumsticks and setlist. We then met the drummer (by the way, this is all happening in the back alley outside their dressing room). He looked at the drumsticks Shaudee was holding and said ?Wow that?s new. Those aren?t cheap. And we?re not exactly rich either.? We asked if he wanted it back, but he was kidding. Colin, drummer, was a really nice guy. We had a good talk, which felt more like an interview, because we would just ask question after question about tours, Scotland, sheep mafia, music, etc. We crept over to Gavin, bassist, who was also cool as. He looked like Allan, they both had shaggy black hair. We mingled for awhile, and he said that next show (Nov), he would call us up and get us tickets! (I doubt it- but still- it?s nice to say even if you don?t meant it) I felt that the Idlewild people genuinely nice people. The security guards were being nice to us out of pity. Hey.. I don?t mind. We even got free food- not any food- Idlewild chips! When the Troubadour became empty, we went on stage and looked around. I noticed a sensefield poster, and the security guard gave it to me! He told me to roll it up before anyone saw. We laughed - because we thought it was a joke. So we were about to leave the stage when the big black head security grabbed the poster away from me. I guess I should of rolled it up. He looked at Shaudee?s drumsticks, but she held it close to her. Her eyes read ?theres no way in hell you?re taking these!? Shaudee?s mom was there to pick us up, so we had to leave anyway. Unfortunatly, Roddy, the lead singer, was about to come out to greet us, but we left before he could see us. So what did we learn from this adventure? Scottish/Ireland/UK people are all nice and look like hobbits. And Tostitos Gold Tortilla chips are durable and their thickness allows it to withstand heavy-duty salsa scooping. Always buy tickets in advance, that is, if you don?t want to be pitied.
