11/23/03 HOB Hollywood By RoseMary Rattray It had been a whole 3 months since we last saw Andrew WK and the crew. Fortunately they still remembered us as the Sheep Mafia girls! When we got there, Shaudee, her mother, and I called Frank and called him down. When he came down he gave us all a shock, he looked like he just woken up. No worries, we stood there watching the performance by these crazy bands that had kilts on along with a Drum contest since the night also featured Drum Day 2003. Awkward and hungry, Shaudee and I were desperate to get the free backstage food. We were even more desperate to get backstage when we found out that many other Sheep Mafia buddies such as Stryker and John from SOAD were also at the event along with many other drummers from RHCP, No Doubt, Pennywise etc. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Andrew WKs event so he couldn’t reserve passes for us, but we never let down and found a secret entrance backstage. This was such an achievement for us since we have never been able to get backstage at the HOB Hollywood, and wow was it worth it. The backstage area was bigger than the actual show area! There were rooms everywhere nicely furnished with sofas, candles, chandeliers. We were very cautious of our moves and didn't want to cause attention. We spotted Chad Smith, drummer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who seemed more happy to meet us than we were! We sat around for more celebrities to come, but unfortunately we looked too young to be around the 21+ backstage area and were forced out. Lucky us, we spotted Frank in the opposite room, we desperately ran to him and was saved. The guards left us alone and we finally got to eat the free food. And boy was it good. We heard Sebastian Bach was there and wanted to meet him but it wasn’t worth the risk of leaving backstage. We were mingling in Andrew WK's (and crew) dressing room for hours just sitting there laughing hysterically at Gregg and his jokes, Andrew WK going over his vocal exercises and downing honey, and everyone singing random songs like Puff n Stuff. We felt so out of place but it was just so much fun, nobody seemed to mind us sitting there anyways. When Andrew had to go on we went upstairs to watch from the balcony, we had the best view. It was just insane watching everyone in the pit and everyone on stage, it was so alive. When we went back to the room we spotted Andrew struggling to get up the stairs, we tried to help but we were more of a distraction. Later, we found out he broke his foot. After we said good-bye to everyone we went hope worried about Andrew but excited for the next show in Anaheim.
11/24/03 HOB Anaheim By Angela Wolf It was a Monday. Rosemary and I got the Anaheim House of Blues at around 6, we were worried that maybe Andrew would cancel the show but of course the awesome Andrew never let down. They hadn’t received the guest list yet, so we decided to sneak in, even though we had passes and tickets. We followed an elaborate path that took us down to the garage. Here we entered the backstage area. There was really good food that we started picking at. Frank came out of nowhere and was like “what… are you …doing?” It was pretty embarrassing. For the next few hours we stayed in the backstage red room where there was even more food. Everyone was there, Ken, Big Daddy, Brian, and Frank, they were really nice even though we seemed like such a burden. We left the backstage area to get our backstage passes. Why? Because it was extremely boring/awkward backstage. It turns out, oops, Frank got us lounge passes, for upstairs, not for backstage. All the security guards recognized us, and they wouldn’ t let us back to backstage. We situated ourselves upstairs when Andrew started to play. As he rolled on stage we cracked up. (Andrew broke his foot the night before in Hollywood) Andrew sure does have spirit. He told the audience "I called my dad before the Hollywood show, he said 'Break a leg', unfortunately I only broke my foot" har har. After the show we met up with Shaudee and her mom. We got backstage one more time and got a photo of AWK and his wheelchair (he was really excited to be a cripple) and saw the rest of the crew and band and said good-bye. Well, after that, we left.
